Semper Fidelis - A Novel of the Roman Empire by Ruth Downie

My first by Ruth Downie and I so love Roman Britain! I borrowed this one from my library system and trying for more.A very energetic and engaging mystery about a couple who seems contemporary in thoughts. Love that!

Gaius Ruso, Medicus of Twentieth legion in Roman-occupied Britain and his wife the native born Tilla get caught up in a series of intense events. The Emperor Hadrian's unscheduled appearance has the Legion involved in some complicated but nefarious happenings.

Great history of the era and descriptions of travel and daily life. I am going back now and start with the first book as this is Book 5.. I recommend that everyone interested try to do that also.

Rhys Bowen's latest - Queen of Hearts~ A Yes!

Lady Georgiana Rannoch has this to say: "My mother, the glamorous and much-married actress, is hearing wedding bells once again—which is why she must hop across the pond for a quickie divorce in Reno. To offer my moral support, and since all expenses are paid by her new hubby-to-be, Max, I agree to make the voyage with her"

Although it was not the best book in the series, fans of Rhys Bowen will want to read it! I got it from my library and of course will get the next one also..

Katherine and the Elizabeth Chadwick Bundle - Rereading at it's very best!

What more can I say? Katherine by Anya Seton and Elizabeth Chadwick's bundle of the Greatest Knight, The Scarlet Lion and For the King's Favor.. Rereading at it's very best..

Wulfsuna - The Wolf Spear Saga 1 - E S Moxon ~ A Great Read~

"AD433. Torn apart when Rome abandoned Bryton, the Wulfsuna are a disparate tribe. Twenty years on, two long ships sail for the east fens" as their Warrior Lord planned. Betrayal waited at the end of the voyage and violence stalks the tribe as they travel to their destination to a land some of them had never seen.

So begins the Wolf Spear Saga Book 1, a historical fiction  with elements of magical realism by a talented author and very fine historian. Elaine Moxon had this to say recently: "I'm a Birmingham-based writer, former Holistic Therapist and a member of the Historical Novel Society. I love history, languages and telling stories. My Saxon series, the 'Wolf Spear Saga' tells of the legendary tale of when a Seer meets one named 'Wolf Spear' and destinies become irrevocably interwoven."

"Let us take this green land to our bosom.." is a great thing to read as this novel draws to a close. The Wolf Sons will take you to a time and place cloaked in darkness and mystery and make it come alive. Pre-order links are up, do get your copy now. Recommended to all who want post Roman Britain and the peopling of that land to come alive. A great read!

Satan's Lullaby - Priscilla Royal #11 - Thanks Netgalley for this great read!

A really intricate and surely historical Medieval Mystery #11 for Priscilla Royal. It was not a quick read so pay attention to the details ( my kindle makes it harder to leave backwards)! Very very fine author's notes are included regarding Normand and Fontevraud Abbey.

Prioress Eleanor, Ralf and Brother Thomas and some other regulars all took turns finding themselves on the hot seat as "Abbess Isabeau, has sent Father Etienne Davoir( her own brother) from its headquarters in France to inspect all aspects of Tyndal Priory from its morals to its roofs."

A baby coming at this time and more than one mysterious death lend intensity to this mystery. If you are a fan then you must order now and also if you like a good Medieval read mystery or not.

Longbourn- Jo Baker ~ Extremely engrossing read!!

Very happy that an author whose work and research I value listed this in her list of good books read in 2104.I read this far into the night sometimes as it was a new period and type of characters for me and I wanted to figure it all out. What an intriguing book for me!

Sarah, the heroine, and the other characters all eventually were shown to be connected to each other in some fashion. It is not necessary to be a Jane Austen fan to enjoy or understand this tale of a long ago period of history, although perhaps I may think about more?

Recommended to anyone who likes accurate period detail and fine writing of any time period.

Isabella: Queen Without a Conscience - Rachel Bard - Loved it! More!

A very fine book, well written and researched and I enjoyed it a lot. Isabella had a position that was always difficult for a woman of her times.

I am reminded of the song sung by Guinevere in Camelot, "Oh Genevieve, Saint Genevieve, where were you when my youth was sold? Dear Genevieve, sweet Genevieve, shan't I be young before I'm old?"

She was exiled from England after the death of John and what then was she to do?

I enjoyed this book a great deal and hope to read the other books by this author. Understanding all the females of the Plantagenet family is a fine literary move. Recommended to others who relish Medieval and Plantagenet historical novels.
